Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blockage of blood flow in the pulmonary artery bed that can result in a life-threatening and potentially reversible right ventricular failure [1]. PE remains one of the leading causes of poor prognosis and death, particularly when a shock or right ventricular failure occurs [2]. According to studies, PE is generally manifested in a nonspecific manner

In the last century, starting from 1911 (Kulenkampff) [1], more than twenty upper limb blocking techniques had been described, each of these blocks with its owns strengths and weaknesses (complications). Personally, in the early 80s I still applied Kulenkampff’s supraclavicular technique modified by Moore [2]; in one week I had had two

A national perinatal survey in France in 2016 showed that 12.2% of women have instrumentally assisted vaginal births with vacuum extraction used in 49.8% of cases, making it the most frequently used form of obstetrical assistance.
Reduced BCR Signaling and a Metabolic Shift Accompanies Malignant Progression of Follicular Lymphoma: A Lesson from Transcriptomics
Lymphoma represents the most common form of hematological malignancy in the developed world, accounting for 3.6% of all cancers and 55.6% of all blood cancers in Europe, with non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) representing 90% of cases.
A View on the Contribution of Hedgehog Signalling to Ventricular Septal Development
The ventricular septal defect (VSD) is the most frequent congenital heart disease in humans. It is defined as an opening in the septum separating the left and the right ventricle. This gap results in a mixture of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and in an enhanced blood flow towards the lung and the left ventricle, a condition that leads to severe diseases such as left ventricular hypertrophy as well as pulmonary edema and dilatation.
Peritoneal Fluid Leptin Levels in Endometriosis: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Leptin has been proposed as a biomarker for endometriosis. Previous studies have shown mixed results. The aim of this study was to compare peritoneal fluid (PF) leptin concentrations between patients with and without endometriosis in a cohort of sufficient size to detect a significant difference.
Viable but Nonculturable Gastrointestinal Bacteria and Their Resuscitation
Viable but nonculturable (VBNC) bacteria are deeply dormant phenotypic variants that are characterized by a loss of culturability in conventional culture media, yet retain some viability markers. Thus, low metabolic activity, nutrient uptake, membrane integrity, and respiration are all detectable in these dormant cells. In 1982, the VBNC state was first described for Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae. Shortly afterwards, VBNC Salmonella enteriditis were found to regain culturability
The Health Effects of the Abuse of Ketamine
Addiction is defined as being a primary chronic disease of the brain reward, motivation, and memory in this complex circuitry. A dysfunction in this complex circuitry can lead to certain manifestations in an individual [1]. The individual who suffers from addiction does not have the ability to abstain from this harmful pursuit and, as a result,
Late ECG Changes after Cisplatin-Based Chemotherapy in Testicular Cancer Survivors
Introducing cisplatin-based therapy into testicular cancer treatment represents a substantial progress in therapy leading to a longer survival of patients and less adverse effects; currently it represents the standard therapy.
What is the Time Necessary to be Able to Place Transpedicular Screws According to the Chosen Technique?
Transpedicular screw placement techniques are technically plaintiffs have relied on navigation intraoperative which is limited by its high cost, limited use of a fluoroscope with the radiological overexposure of the personnel of health and patient offers limited help when placing screws, and vertebral anatomical modifications especially in patients with degenerative pathology result an index of placement-related complications suboptimal of the screws [1,2].
Since its introduction by Roy-Camille [3] and Louis [4] in the seventies, the use of screws pedicle has increased markedly to the present day
Microptofluidic Technology for Biodiagnostics of Traumatic Brain Injury: A Commentary
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and neurological disability worldwide with millions of people sustaining and living with its long-term effects []. TBI is often categorized as mild, moderate and severe with primary injuries separated as either focal or diffuse, with the latter including contusions, intracranial hematomas and brain herniation.
Weight and Abdominal Adiposity Loss with Auricular Acupuncture – A Randomized Controlled Trial
According to the WHO, obesity has more than doubled since 1980 [1]. The reality, however, is that most of the world’s population live in places where overweight and obesity kill more people than underweight. In 2016, more than a third of adults worldwide were classified as overweight or living with obesity, as were 41 million children younger than 5 years [2].
Integrating Neurology and Psychiatry throughout Educational Curricula for Healthcare Professionals

Cytokines (IL-1 β, IL-6, IL-18, TNF-α) in Blood and Cerebrospinal Fluid in Neonatal Hypoxia/Ischemia)
Perinatal brain injury is an important clinical and socioeconomic entity. It is a syndrome of impaired brain function in the early days of life, and it is a consequence of inadequate brain oxygenation before, during or shortly after birth, with high mortality rates and early and late morbidity rates.
Study of the Element Concentrations in Synovial Fluids of Patients with Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases
Rheumatic diseases are one of the most common problems in modern societies. The majority of rheumatic diseases occur when the human immune system attacks its own tissues, including the joints. There is no single cause of rheumatic diseases. Sometimes it may be a genetic factor, but in other cases cigarette smoking is responsible for the disease, or pollution, or other factors such as an infection. Seidman and Limaiem claim that “synovial fluid aspiration and analysis is a necessary therapeutic and diagnostic procedure useful in alleviating pain from a joint effusion and in the diagnosis of potentially serious joint pathologies.”
SARS-CoV-2 Infection: The Viral Arms Race and Pattern- Recognition Receptors
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2), the causative agent of COVID-19 respiratory disease, was first identified on 7 December 2019, and quickly spread worldwide. The SARS-CoV-2 belongs to Coronaviridea family, enveloped single-stranded RNA viruses. The family is divided into two subfamilies, the Coronavirinae and the Torovirinae, distinguished by the shape of their nucleocapsids . Virions are roughly spherical and are notable for the large spike (S) glycoprotein that mediate viral entry to the host cell. The subfamily Coronavirinae consists of four genera, the alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-coronaviruses. There are seven coronaviruses that can infect people – four of them causing a common cold (229E, NL63, OC43, HKU1), and three are associated with potentially severe respiratory conditions, namely severe syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and the emerging type of SARS-CoV-2, which has 79% sequence homology with SARS-CoV.
BIOMODULINA T® Modulates Lymphocyte Compartments in Institutionalized Cuban Geriatric Patients
Aging is accompanied by numerous changes that affect almost all components of the immune system, collectively called immunosenescence. Immunosenescence has long been considered detrimental because it is often accompanied by the subclinical accumulation of pro-inflammatory factors and inflammation. Together, it is suggested that immunosenescence and inflammation are at the origin of most diseases of the elderly, such as infections, cancer, autoimmune disorders and chronic inflammatory diseases. However, a large number of immunogerontologists have changed this negative interpretation of immunosenescence regarding its significance in age-related alterations of the immune system. Considering these changes from an evolutionary perspective, it is preferable to view it as adaptive or remodeling. Although it is conceivable that global immune changes can lead to various diseases, it is also obvious that these changes are necessary for extended survival or longevity.

Case Report of Pulmonary Embolism with Right Ventricular Strain in a Young Female
Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is when one or more thrombus travel to the lungs and obstruct the pulmonary artery or one of the branches of the pulmonary tree, producing signs and symptoms immediately after the obstruction. Saddle pulmonary embolism (SPE) is a rare type of acute PE that can lead to hemodynamic instability and death. The incidence of pulmonary embolism increases with age. In women, the risk of PE increases with pregnancy, hormonal contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapy.
A Rare Endoscopic Finding: Gastric Diverticulum
A 40-year-old man received upper gastrointestinal endoscopic scan during a health check-up. There was no history suggestive of Helicobacter pylori eradication, reflux esophagitis, peptic ulcer disease and upper abdominal surgery. Endoscopy revealed a wide-mouthed diverticulum of the size of 1.5 × 2 cm between the fundus and greater curvature of the stomach (Figure 1).
