Chest Pain in Repeated Emergency Department Visitors
Chest pain is the leading symptom in 5 to 8% of all emergency department (ED) visits and is also one of the major reasons of repeated ED visits, causing around 6% of these cases [1]. Generally, in 15 to 25% of patients with chest pain, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the underlying cause.

Internists as well as cardiologists often receive echocardiogram reports which failed to offer a clear definition of the aortic stenosis (AS) severity due to discordant data regarding the aortic valve gradients and the valve area. Sometimes AS appears severe according to the valve area criteria, in spite of the fact that gradients across the valve are not in the severe range.

Various catheter ablation technologies have evolved to improve the procedural success and safety of cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) block. Numerous studies have compared the different energy types, catheter tip sizes, and energy settings.
J Clin Cardiol, 2020, Volume 1, Issue 1, p33-39 | DOI: 10.33696/cardiology.1.004A View on the Contribution of Hedgehog Signalling to Ventricular Septal Development
The ventricular septal defect (VSD) is the most frequent congenital heart disease in humans. It is defined as an opening in the septum separating the left and the right ventricle. This gap results in a mixture of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and in an enhanced blood flow towards the lung and the left ventricle, a condition that leads to severe diseases such as left ventricular hypertrophy as well as pulmonary edema and dilatation.

Thymoma as an Incidental Finding in a Myocardial Perfusion Study with 99mTc-MIBI
The differential diagnosis of a mediastinal mass includes benign and malignant etiologies like lymphomas, thymic tumors, thyroid goiter, infections such as tuberculosis, chronic granulomatous disorders such as sarcoidosis, germ cell tumors, among others. Based on its location, they can be classified as anterior, medium or posterior.
Pain Outcomes with an Elliptical Regimen (POWER) Study: Identifying the Proper Dosage of Exercise for Therapeutic Effect in Persons with Chronic Back Pain
Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most prevalent conditions that will affect 70-85% of individuals at some point in their life [1]. LBP accounts for 2.3% of all visits to the physician, and is the most common area of the body to experience pain [2]. Exercise has been a mainstay for managing persons with chronic low back pain for almost 40
A New Window onto the Pacemaker of the Heart, the Sinus Node, Provided by Quantitative Proteomics and Single- Nucleus Transcriptomics
Hypothesis-driven research has dominated biomedical science for at least the past century. There are many papers and grant applications that will have been rejected because they are not hypothesis-driven. For example, Haufe reports that the NIH guidelines for RO1 grants states that “A strong grant application is driven by a strong, solid hypothesis with clear research objectives”.
Bromodomain and Extra-Terminal Family Protein Inhibitors: A Potentially New Therapy for Heart Disease
Bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) is a member of the mammalian bromo- and extra-terminal domain (BET) protein family, which also comprises BRD2, BRD3, and testis-specific BRDt.
Commentary on Association between Birth Weight and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: Evidence from UK Biobank
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major causes of death worldwide and poses a huge public health burden [1,2]. Early identification of individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease is crucial to develop effective preventions. The DOHAD hypothesis proposed by Professor Barker et al. states that an abnormal environment
Manual Therapy Improves Immediate Blood Flow and Tissue Fiber Alignment of the Forearm Extensors
It is well established that lateral elbow pain and dysfunction is a common pathology in general and sport populations [1-3]. Lateral elbow pain has been termed tennis elbow, epicondylitis, elbow tendinosis, elbow tendinopathy, but currently, the term lateral epicondylalgia (LE) encompasses the spectrum of degeneration and
The Role of Cerebral Embolic Protection in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
In transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), stroke remains one of the most devastating complications. The goal of this review is to provide an overview of all currently available CEPD and to discuss the results of the most relevant studies concerning cerebral embolic protection in TAVR.
Coronary Revascularization in the Era of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: Treat the Patient, Manage the Disease
Coronary artery disease continues to be the greatest cause of global mortality. The prevalence of coronary artery disease in patients with severe aortic stenosis varies widely, from 80% in extreme high-risk trials to only 15% in more recent low risk trials.
The Novel Antiplatelet Agent Revacept in Cardiovascular Medicine: The Promise of Efficacy Without Bleeding
Revacept, a dimeric fusion protein of the extracellular domain of GPVI and the human Fc-fragment, inhibits collagen-mediated platelet adhesion and subsequent aggregation at the site of vascular injury. Finally, the possible utility of this pharmacological approach in the prevention of tumor metastasis is discussed.
Commentary on: Echocardiography in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Is It Time to Reconsider Its Prognostic Utility?
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) represents a rare but devastating disease due to small pulmonary arterial vessels remodelling and increased pulmonary vascular resistance leading to right ventricular dysfunction, right heart failure and death.
Estimated Plasma Volume Status (ePVS) for Diastolic Heart Failure in the Intensive Care Unit: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Diastolic heart failure (DHF) is also be regarded as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), is estimated to occur in 40 to 50% of patients with HF. More than 70% of HF patients over the age of 65 had HFpEF, and the incidence and prevalence of HFpEF has been increased by 10% every 10 years in comparison to HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and this gap is expected to widen in the coming years.
Metformin in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure
Heart failure affects 1-2% of the adult population in developed countries and the lifetime risk of a heart failure diagnosis is 20%. Patients with heart failure have markedly reduced life expectancy, physical capacity and quality of life. One-year all-cause mortality rates for heart failure patients range between 7 and 17% and the yearly hospitalization rate can be as high as 44%.
Pain in Patients undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty
Pain continues to be reported by patients waiting for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and after undergoing this surgery despite advances in the delivery of pain management. The motivation for carrying out this initial work was due to the concerns of the surgeons based on patients reports of pain, at their 6-week return to clinic appointments. Concerns of addiction, overdosing, multi-modal analgesia and lack of pain education were the factors.
Cancer-Related Pain: Inside a New Dynamic Personalized Approach. A Narrative Review
Chronic cancer-related pain, according to the latest International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), is defined as “chronic pain caused by the primary cancer itself or metastases (chronic cancer pain) or its treatment (chronic post-cancer treatment pain)”.
The Use of a New Type of Heart Rate-controlled Training System HeartGo® for Patients with Chronic Heart Failure on the Pedelec
Secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease such as heart failure includes regular physical activity with endurance and strength training, which is used for this purpose with high prevalence. Early rehabilitation should begin in hospital (phase I), be continued in a rehabilitation clinic or as an outpatient close to home (phase II), and then (phase III) preferably in outpatient heart groups (AHG).
Pre-operative Intravenous Iron to Optimise Patients Before Cardiac Surgery
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines anaemia as a haemoglobin (Hb) of less than 130 mg/mL in men and 120 mg/mL in non-pregnant women. Anaemia has a global prevalence of 25%. In patients presenting for surgery the prevalence can be as high as 40%. Anaemia can be acute or chronic; but becomes problematic when there are insufficient numbers of red blood cells to maintain physiological oxygen demand, the end result being compromised oxygen delivery.
Commentary: Use of BACTRAC Proteomic Database-Uromodulin Protein Expression During Ischemic Stroke
Uromodulin (UMOD) is a glycoprotein expressed by the epithelial cells of the thick ascending limb of Henle’s loop in the kidney. Research has shown that increased uromodulin expression may be associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease in adults.
