Learning from Pitfall and Error: A Usefulness of Case Report

Abstract

Case report is an important kind of article in medicine. The case report can be in several forms. The case report on pitfall and error is interesting. It is useful for giving lesson learnt to the reader. It should promote that the practitioner should report cases on lesson leant from pitfall and error that can be useful to the others in medical society.

Introduction

Case report is an important kind of article in medicine. The case report can be in several forms. A report might be on the new finding, new technique, rare condition or lesson learnt [1-2]. The case report on pitfall and error is interesting. It is useful for giving lesson learnt to the reader. It should promote that the practitioner should report cases on lesson leant from pitfall and error that can be useful to the others in medical society.

How can pitfall and error be a good case report?

The pitfall or error can occur in general practice. Routinely, there are several practice guidelines for prevention of such problem. However, the problem can sporadically occur. When there is a pitfall or error, it is important to perform a root cause analysis. This is a useful step for getting correction and preventive actions. An important thing that is usually forgotten is the summarization of the scenario. For each episode, lesson leant can be derived. If there is a good analysis, a good case can be reported.

A case report on pitfall and error can reflect the scenario. The important point that the pitfall or error occurs can be shown. This is a good retrospective view on the case. It can give the lesson learnt to the reader.

How to write a good case report on pitfall and error

To write a good case report on pitfall and error, one must follow the basic rule for writing a case report. The details are important. For specific point, the details of pitfall or error must be clearly presented. The timeframe of the scenario is necessary to be given. The root cause analysis process must be clarified. Also, the data on corrective actions is needed. Finally, there should be a note on the lesson learnt from the case to the reader.

Conclusion

Practitioner should review and summarize on any pitfall or error and if it is possible, case port should be written.
