Xiaobo Zhou, Ph.D. joined SBMI in February of 2017 as a Professor and the Director of Center for Computational Systems Medicine.
Zhou received a B.S. degree from Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, in 1988. Zhou earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Beijing University, Beijing, China, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. All of his degrees are in applied mathematics. From 1998 to 2004, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with several universities including Tsinghua University, Beijing, University of Missouri-Columbia, Texas A&M University and Harvard Medical School. From 2005 to 2007, he was a faculty member with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University in Boston, MA. From 2007 to 2012, Zhou was the Chief of Bioinformatics and Professor of Radiology at Houston Methodist and Cornell Medical College in New York. Most recently, Zhou served as Professor, Chief of Bioinformatics and Director of Center for Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine from 2012 to 2017. Currently, Zhou is still an Adjunct Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Zhou has been working on data sciences and Bioinformatics area for over 20 years. He is an expert in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Imaging Informatics and Clinical Informatics. He has both dry lab and wet lab experience. The dry lab focuses on biomedical informatics, machine learning, big data sciences, multiscale systems modeling, and the wet lab focuses on the experimental systems biology and validation. Dr. Zhou and his colleagues pioneered the imaging aided surgical design and medical device optimization, computational genomics, high-content cellular imaging informatics, multiscale systems biology guided cancer and regenerative medicine, and phosphoproteomics data analysis. He has published close to 200 peer-reviewed research articles including Science, Nature series, various IEEE Transactions, Cancer Research, Nucleic Acids Research, Biomaterials, Bioinformatics, Plos Computational Biology, etc, and also authorized two books. Zhou has been fully funded by NIH since 2005. He was also the co-PI of the NIH U54 Center for Systems Modeling of Cancer Development, the site PI of the PCORI CDRN project - Scalable Collaborative Infrastructure for a Learning Health Systems, the Director of Biomedical Informatics Program of NIH U54 Wake Forest CTSA center grant, and the Director of Cancer Bioinformatics at Wake Forest University Comprehensive Cancer Center NIH P30.
