My long term research interests involve how genetic and epigenetic mechanisms contribute to human diseases and inter-individual variations in drug response/toxicity. I have more than 8 years of experience in various areas of research including medical, analytical, experimental pharmacology, pharmacogenetics, immunology, medical education and cell-culture. In my postdoctoral training, I am continuing to build on my previous training in translational medicine by moving into cell culture and proteomic studies that will allow me to identify the role of specific proteins and biological agents in developing diseases and drug/cellular toxicity. Currently, I have been investigating the role of exosomes and their contents (proteins, cytokines, miRNA) in HIV induced neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease. During my Ph.D, I worked on pharmacogenetics of methotrexate in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and I gained experience in clinical data collection, compiling and building the patients’ reports. During this period, I have streamlined the collection, documentation and accessibility of patients’ clinical data online to relevant clinicians and other fellow researchers. I also gained experience in various molecular science techniques and biostatistics and utilized my experience in those areas by training other researchers through hands-on workshops. As an undergraduate research student, I conducted and published research on the wound healing activities of several medicinal plants in animal models. My career in research also involves couple of years of experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate medical students. I have published 24 papers in peer reviewed journals and received 5 awards at conferences.
