Dr. Hongmei Mou is an Assistant Professor in The Mucosal Immunology and Biology Research Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MIBRC). Her current laboratory research focuses on using stem cell technology to study genetic mutation and environmental associated lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, STAT6/HIES job syndrome, asthma, and bronchiectasis that are common causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. By deploying in vitro functional 2D (ALI culture) and 3D organoid models, in which patient-specific and disease-specific airway and alveolar epithelial cells are co-cultured with smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts and immune cells, she is seeking to understand pathophysiological functions of airway and alveolar epithelial cells in homeostasis, regeneration, and disease pathogenesis.
