Biography

Dr. Bilal Malik is a Wellcome Trust researcher at the Dementia Research Institute at Cardiff University. He obtained a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh. Following a postdoctoral training from Bristol and Sheffield University, he was briefly based at Kashmir University as a Ramanujan Fellow before returning the UK to begin his current position. He is interested in uncovering the principles of nervous system function and mechanism of neurodegenerative disease and particularly in understanding the role of endo-lysosomal and autophagic pathways in neurodegenerative disease and the effects of Epigenetic mechanisms on autophagy. Apart from research, teaching and supervisory activity Bilal is a reviewer for a number of international scientific journals.
