Biography

Dr. Guoxun Chen is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA. He is also the Director of Graduate Studies at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA.

Dr. Chen received his BS in 1986 and MS in 1989 in Virology and Molecular Biology from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.  Medical Degree from Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy in 2004. Later, he received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Dallas, USA. From 2001-2006, Dr. Chen conducted his Postdoctoral studies on Insulin action and lipid metabolism at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Dallas, USA.

He is a member of American Diabetes Association, American Society for Nutrition, and American Heart Association. He has published several papers in reputed international journals.

Research Interest

Regulation of hepatic gene expression by nutrients (such as Vitamin A) and hormones (such as insulin) in health and disease models. The long term goal is to understand molecular mechanisms of hepatic insulin resistance associated with obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
